Decrease in terrorist incidents in J-K: Jaiswal

Union Minister of state for Home Affairs, Sriprakash Jaiswal, replying to a question in Rajya Sabha today said there has been a decrease in terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir during the last two years.

NEW DELHI: Union Minister of state for Home Affairs, Sriprakash Jaiswal, replying to a question in Rajya Sabha today said there has been a decrease in terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir during the last two years. The number of terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir during the year 2007 was 1092 while the number stood at 1667 for the year 2006. He presented the report of the Jammu and Kashmir Government that stated more than 8.75 lakh tourists visited the State during the last two years.

He also presented the various steps taken by the State Government and security forces, in an endeavour to make the security environment progressively safer for tourists. These include a separate tourist police and enforcement wing at Srinagar, Jammu and other tourist places. Adequate deployment of security forces and state police is being ensured around the tourist spots and regular patrolling and anti-sabotage checks are being undertaken in and around tourist places and roads leading there.
