Declare floods in Jammu and Kashmir as national disaster: JKNPP
JAMMU: Fearing that flood affected people of Jammu province will not be properly compensated, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today demanded that the recent floods in the state should declared as a National Disaster.

"If the recent floods in the state are not declared as National Disaster there are chances that the victims of Jammu province will not get compensation," JKNPP president and MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia said.

He said that as per the current norms the compensation could only be given to the people who were affected by the floods but not heavy rains.

"The damage is Kashmir was caused by the floods while most of the damage in Jammu region took place because of heavy rain. So there is the catch, if they don't declare it as national disaster Jammu region will get ignored," he said.
