Decision on Telangana statehood after consultations: Government

Decision will be taken on the issue of formation of a separate Telangana state on the basis of consultations with political parties.

NEW DELHI: A suitable decision will be taken on the issue of formation of a separate Telangana state on the basis of consultations with political parties, the government today said in the Rajya Sabha.

Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh said that in accordance with the report submitted by Sri Krishna Committee, the government is consulting all the political parties on Telangana issue.

Singh was replying to a debate on a Private Members' resolution moved by Prakash Javadekar (BJP).

He said the government is keeping a close watch over the political situation and agitation for creation of a separate state and a "suitable decision" will be taken on the basis of the consultations with political parties.

Refuting charges of neglect of Telangana region, he said the government was taking all steps for equal progress of all regions of Andhra Pradesh.

Members belonging to BJP, TDP and Shiv Sena were, however, dissatisfied with the reply and staged a walkout.
