Decimated Congress in Assam now refurbishing administrative machinery
GUWAHATI: Guwahati: Faced with crushing defeat of his party in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi now talks of refurbishing the administrative machinery.

As assembly election is just two years from now and congress in Assam decimated, Gogoi announced that the government would form an implementation committee headed by the Chief Secretary to oversee the implementation of various government schemes and programmes.

Gogoi said the Chief Secretary, Jitesh Khosla would monitor the status and progress of implementation of different schemes and the Principal Secretaries/Commissioners& Secretaries would be responsible for the implementation of the schemes of their respective departments.

The Chief Minister held a discussion with Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary and other senior officials as to how the files could be disposed of fast, how the implementation of different schemes could be expedited, how the rules-regulations could be modified and simplified and how the approved schemes could be implemented within a specific time frame.

Gogoi underscored the need to make the Office of the Divisional Commissioners more active with infrastructure in place so that people need not have to come to Dispur to get their work done.

Gogoi announced that an administrative reforms committee would be constituted headed by a senior retired bureaucrat either of State or Central Government. The Committee would have to submit its report within two months.
