Death toll from a landslide that sweeped a brick factory in north China rose to 19 with three more bodies recovered today.

BEIJING: Death toll from a landslide that sweeped a brick factory in north China rose to 19 with three more bodies recovered today, local officials said.

The landslide near Shangan village in Lyliang city yesterday destroyed the factory and buried 20 workers. Only one of them was pulled out alive, the emergency headquarters said.

"I saw a large pile of earth falling from the mountain. I hurried to run away but had not run 10 metres before I was crushed by roof boards that were hit by the landslide," the state-run Xinhua news agency quoted the worker as saying.

More than 300 rescuers were mobilised for the rescue operation, it said. The site has been sealed to avoid dangers from further landslides, it said.
