DDA scam: Delhi court remands ex-SBI employee to 8 days' police custody

A Delhi court on Saturday remanded Laxmi Narayan Meena, a former SBI employee who was arrested in connection with the DDA housing draw scam, to eight day police custody.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday remanded Laxmi Narayan Meena, a former SBI employee who was arrested in connection with the DDA housing draw scam, to eight day police custody.

Metropolitan Magistrate Vishal Singh allowed the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police to interrogate Meena, accused of applying for DDA flats in the name of another person by using forged documents, till January 17.

Meena (54), a resident of Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu, was arrested after a person who was allotted a flat in the draw told the police that he had neither applied for DDA flats nor for a PAN card.

He had allegedly applied for DDA flats under the names of several people in his village, the police told the court.

The Investigating Officer submitted that three accused, whose names cropped up in the probe -- Deepak, Suresh and Narender -- are yet to be arrested and Meena's questioning was needed for this purpose.

The police has also seized the software used by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for draw of lots for over 5,000 flats in the national capital and has sent it to Hyderabad-based Forensic Laboratory to find out whether it was tampered with to help rig the draw.

They said that they were looking into a possible role of any DDA official, hailing from Rajasthan, in the alleged "rigging" in the draw of lots.

A case under various provisions of the IPC, dealing with cheating by impersonation, inducing delivery of property, forgery and using as genuine a forged document has been lodged.
