NEW DELHI: Swati Maliwal, whose appointment as Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief was today approved by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, said that the body would work in coordination with Delhi government, the Centre, LG office and police for the cause of women.

"I am quite happy that my appointment has been approved by Lt Governor. I will be working for the cause of women and their safety diligently," Maliwal told PTI.

30-year-old Maliwal had taken charge as the commission's chief on Monday last but her appointment was struck down by the LG. She will take charge as the DCW chief again tomorrow.

Maliwal said that past few days have made her realise that the future ahead would be full of challenges and that the Commission would work in coordination with the state, central government, LG office and police for the cause of women.

"The future is very challenging. But unlike the previous Commission which had a kitty party culture, we will seriously work for women's causes and their safety," she said.

"We would take lot of inputs from experts and aam janta and utilise our powers to solve the problems of women," she said.

Jung gave the consent today to appointment of Maliwal and three other members, handpicked by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, after AAP government sent him a fresh note heeding to his directive to follow the laid down process.

"The file pertaining to appointment of Maliwal and other members of the DCW has been cleared," sources said.

On Friday, Jung had returned the file pertaining to Maliwal's appointment but said he would have no hesitation to clear it if it is processed properly.

The Lt Governor had struck down her appointment by AAP government on Tuesday last, a day after she took charge of the Commission, asserting that 'government' in Delhi meant the LG and his approval to any such appointment was necessary.

Maliwal is the wife of Aam Aadmi Party leader Navin Jaihind and has been an advisor to Kejriwal on public grievances and handles his Janta Samwad. She has been associated with the AAP chief since India Against Corruption (IAC) days.
