DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal demanded that a special session of Parliament be convened to discuss issues pertaining to women's safety and security.

NEW DELHI: DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal today met Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan at her residence and demanded that a special session of Parliament be convened to discuss issues pertaining to women's safety and security.

It was a long and positive meeting wherein they both discussed about women's safety at length and the Speaker assured that she will ponder over the suggestions given by Maliwal, said DCW officials.

"The Speaker also lauded the efforts and initiatives taken by DCW and said that in future she could meet Maliwal to discuss issues related to women," the officials said.

The DCW chief also met Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi here this week over the same issue.

Gandhi had welcomed the idea and has pledged her support for the cause, Maliwal said.
