Dalit law student murder probe on right track: Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala

KOCHI: There has been no negligence on the part of the Kerala police team investigating the brutal murder of the law student Jishamol, said home minister Ramesh Chennithala.

The investigation is progressing in the right direction, he said. The minister said the police should be given time to work freely and collect more evidence in the case.

The allegations that there were lapses from the side of the police in the initial stage of the investigation will be looked into, the minister said. The police is conducting a scientific investigation, he added.

The police is putting a lot of effort into the case and that the culprit will be caught at the earliest. Ramesh Chennithala, however, requested all not to politicise the issue.

He said that he visited the mother of Jishamol as soon as he heard the news. The police had advised him not to do so at that stage. “Still I decided to go”, he said adding that he had asked the DGP also to visit the place.

The Jishamol murder case will not affect the prospects of UDF in any way, he said. Jishamol, a law student, was found murdered in her house near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district on April 28. There were 38 stab wounds in her body. The autopsy report revealed that there was also a rape attempt.

The police have made several arrests but has not identified the real culprit so far.
