Dalai Lama mourns death of Tibetans in protest

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Monday led a prayer at Mcleodganj to mourn the death of 160 fellow countrymen during anti-China protests in Lhasa.

DHARAMSALA: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Monday led a prayer at Mcleodganj to mourn the death of 160 fellow countrymen during anti-China protests in Lhasa.

The Dalai Lama presided over a prayer congregation at Tsuglakhang (Tibetan main temple at Mcleodganj) to mark the completion of 49 days of those killed during peaceful protests in Tibet, a statement from the Central Administration Department of the Tibetan government-in-exile here said.

At least 160 fellow Tibetans have been killed in the current protests beginning on March 10 last which was celebrated as the 49th national uprising.

Today's prayer meeting organised by Tibetan Solidarity Committee was attended by thousands of people including Tibetans as well as others, it said.

The third highest ranking Tibetan leader Karmapa Rinpoche also attended the prayer meeting.
