'Daily release can make sharing Cauvery water a smooth affair'
MADURAI: Amid the continuing row over sharing of Cauvery water by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, a member of the Expert Committee on Interlinking of Rivers today suggested it could be made a smooth affair if the quantum was released on daily basis instead of monthly basis.

If the water was accounted on daily basis, then during the end of the month the remaining water could be calculated and the balance could be released, A C Kamaraj, member of the committee set up by the Centre, said in a statement here.

If excess water had already flown, water release could be reduced, he added.

As per the Cauvery water dispute tribunal, the upper riparian state of Karnataka has to release Tamil Nadu's share on a monthly basis.

Tamil Nadu Government had last week accused Karnataka of wilful default in releasing its share of Cauvery water as per the final award of the tribunal and sought the Centre's intervention.
