Dahi Handi festival: Raj thackeray slams Supreme Court
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has said courts should not interfere in festivals.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court upheld a Bombay High Court decision to limit the height of the ‘dahi handi’ human pyramid to 20 feet and barred persons below the age of 18 from being part of the pyramid.

The ‘dahi handi’ festival, which is held on ‘Janmasthami’ in Maharashtra, draws huge crowds every year. Politicians, cutting across party lines, promise crores of rupees as prize money for breaking curd-containing pots which are hung out of reach. The people forming the human pyramids to reach these pots sometimes sustain serious injuries as they do not use safety harnesses.
