Cyclone Hudhud casualty mounts to 2 in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Casualty in cyclone Hudhud rose to two in Odisha with a fresh death reported from Puri today.

The deceased fisherman, who is yet to be identified, was caught in the sea current amid a tidal surge while he was trying to save his fishing boat anchored in the coast of Puri, Special Relief Commissioner P K Mohapatra said.

"Though he was cautioned by NDRF personnel deployed on the coast, he defied warning and rushed to his boat to fall in the current," an official at the SRC office said.

A minor boy was missing in a boat capsize incident in Kendrapara yesterday.

A nine-year-old girl drowned yesterday when a boat engaged in evacuation of the people in Satbhaya area of Kendrapara district capsized in the Baunsagadi rivulet.

The residents of Magarakanda village were being evacuated when the mishap occurred, Kendrapara Collector Pramod Kumar Das said.
