CWG Scam: Sandeep Wadhwa sent to judicial custody
Sandeep Wadhwa, MD of an Indo-Swiss firm, was on Friday sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a Delhi court after CBI said that his custodial quizzing was over in a corruption case linked to supply of logistical equipments for CWG.
“The accused is remanded to judicial custody till March 25,” Special CBI Judge O P Saini said. The probe agency, in its remand application, said that Wadhwa, who had been interrogated in custody for four days, be sent to jail as the probe vis-à-vis him was over. Earlier, the judge, allowing CBI to interrogate Wadhwa in custody , said: “I find that there is incriminating material on record to the effect that two installments of bribe were paid by the accused to the officials of Organising Committee of the CWG.”
Wadhwa, the MD of M/s Comfort Net, which is a part of the Switzerland-based Nussli India consortium, was arrested on March 7 in connection with alleged irregularities in the award of contracts for overlays for over Rs 600 crore. CBI had said that his custodial interrogation was required “to unearth the entire conspiracy regarding the bribing of OC officials as well as for the purposes of identification of documents and other co-accused” .
Prior to Wadhwa’s arrest, CBI had claimed that it had got some evidence against Nussli India which was given contract of nearly Rs 140 crore for supplying tents, portable cabins, containers and other items for six venues.
