CWG Scam: Over Rs 340 crore spent on installing security system

NEW DELHI: The Government spent over Rs 340 crore on installing a special security system for the Commonwealth Games, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said an Integrated Security System ( ISS) was installed for the security of Games at an estimated cost of Rs 345.70 crore.

The ISS comprised equipment such as Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) which were installed at the competition and non-competition venues linked to the Command, Control, Communication, Computer and Intelligence (C4i) centre set up at Delhi Police headquarters.

"Various other security-related equipment was also installed at the venues as part of the ISS such as Radio-Frequency Identification (RF-ID) tags and readers, Boom Barriers, Active and Passive Bollards, Road-Blockers, Tyre-Killers etc. in order to control vehicular access and to prevent unauthorised entry into venues," Ramachandran said in a written reply to a question.

The expenditure on the ISS was primarily borne by various venue owners, namely Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of information and Broadcasting and Government of National Capital territory of Delhi.

"Ministry of Home Affairs paid an amount of Rs 30 crore to Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited ( MTNL) for bandwidth for the ISS," the Minister said.
