CWG opening: Markets, restaurants closed in Delhi
Delhiites not headed for the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony here today had to keep indoors as shops, markets and restaurants remained shut.
Popular markets like Sarojini Nagar were shut following Delhi government directing that all shops and commercial establishments should remain closed.
In a notification, issued under the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954, the Government, however, made it clear that no deduction should be made from the wages of any employee on account of the holiday.
The government order, however, does not affect small grocers, milk booths and chemists.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) advised trade bodies across the city to observe closure of their business establishments on both the days.
Liquor shops have also been ordered shut all over the city. Only eateries in neighbourhood markets were open.
A senior police official said they could impose a fine of Rs 250 on any person they find operating a commercial establishment on Sunday even though the notification did not mention any fine.
