NEW DELHI: The UPA government, on Tuesday, won the trust vote in the Lok Sabha. As per the final voting, 275 votes were polled in favour of the government and 256 against it. There were 10 abstentions.

Earlier, as per the electronic vote count, 253 votes were polled in favour of the government and 232 against it. There were 2 abstentions.

The UPA won the vote even though opposition lawmakers dramatically interrupted the session to wave wads of cash they said were offered as bribes to abstain.

Earlier, the proceedings were thrown into confusion after opposition MPs interrupted proceedings by brandishing wads of cash, forcing the Speaker to adjourn proceedings at the last minute.

BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani said this was an "important event for the House" and had to be taken seriously. But after a cross-party meeting, he said the vote should go ahead.
