Curfew relaxed for varied periods in 7 districts of Kashmir

Curfew was relaxed in seven of the ten districts of Kashmir valley for varied periods to enable people to buy essentials on the eve of Ramzan.

SRINAGAR: Curfew was relaxed in seven of the ten districts of Kashmir valley for varied periods on Monday to enable people to buy essentials on the eve of Ramzan.

The restrictions were eased in 20 of the 33 police station areas of Srinagar today for two hours from 11.30 am, an official spokesman said.

However, no relaxation was granted in the areas falling under north zone police stations which witnessed violence after curfew was relaxed yesterday, he said.

Curfew was reimposed yesterday within minutes of its easing in downtown Srinagar following sporadic incidents of violence over different issues, including the Amarnath accord.

Curfew was today relaxed in Ganderbal, Bandipora, Budgam, Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts between 8 AM to 3 PM, he said.

The restrictions remained in force in Baramulla and Pulwama district barring Awantipora where curfew was relaxed from 11 AM to 2 PM, he said.

In Kupwara district, curfew was relaxed only in Handwara town from 9 AM to 3 PM, the spokesman said.

Curfew was clamped in all the ten districts of the valley on August 24 to thwart the separatists move to stage a sit-in at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
