Curfew reimposed in Jammu after fresh violence, 40 injured
Curfew was clamped afresh in the entire district today and army deployed in the city after violence erupted late last night leaving 40 people, including nine policemen, injured.
However, curfew was relaxed for varying periods in Samba, Udhampur and Kishtwar districts.
Fresh violence broke out in different parts of the city and stone-pelting mobs clashed with the police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel, police said.
Police and RAF canecharged the mob, lobbed teargas shells and fired rubber bullets in which six RAF men and one sub-divisional police officer Rupinder Chalotra were injured among others.
Meanwhile, the three-day 'Jail Bharo Andolan' called by the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS) to demand transfer of more than 100 acres of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board entered its last day today.
Barbed wire fences were put up by the Army in different parts of the city to stop people from defying curfew and courting arrests.
Curfew was relaxed in Samba for nine hours from 0500 hours and in Udhampur for five hours from 0500 hours and in Kishtwar for five hours from 0700 hours, they said.
Over 1200 vehicles have ferried essential supplies and fruits in and out of the Kashmir valley during past 24 hours, they said.
