Curfew lifted, normalcy returns to Kolkata
The night curfew, which was clamped in Kolkata following large-scale violence during a shut down, was lifted in five police station areas this morning.

KOLKATA: The night curfew, which was clamped in the city following large-scale violence during a shut down, was lifted in five police station areas this morning.
"The city is fast returning to normalcy. Schools and colleges are opening. People have also resumed their normal life," Police Commissioner, Gautam Mohan Chakrabarty told reporters.
"The Army and the police are jointly patrolling the affected areas of the city," he said, adding a review meeting would be held soon to assess the situation after which the government might take a decision on continuation of army deployment.
The Army would also review the situation, he said. The Army was called out to stage flagmarch on the streets of central Kolkata where violence erupted during a three-hour shutdown called by a minority group yesterday.
The administration later imposed an eight-hour night curfew in violence-hit areas.
The shutdown was called to demand cancellation of the visa of Bangladeshi writer Tasleema Nasreen and to protest the Nandigram violence.
