For the first time since Karnataka started reporting Covid-19 cases, the number of cured patients in the state has outnumbered active cases. On Tuesday, the number of cured and discharged patients stood at 331, while active cases totalled 312. Of the 673 cases reported so far, 29 patients have died. The state government has called the number of cured patients outnumbering active cases as a milestone in the fight against Covid-19.

While the number of cases reported from North Karnataka has decreased, Davanagere, with 12 new cases on Tuesday, continued to see a surge in the cases for the third consecutive day. All the newly reported cases were contacts of patients who recently tested positive for the infection. Meanwhile, a labourer testing positive for the infection in Bengaluru’s Mangammanapalya has become a cause of concern.

The labourer had worked with another worker from Hongasandra who had tested positive earlier. The patient had visited a private clinic before he was referred to a government hospital for testing. It is not clear how this worker was not under the BBMP’s radar although he was a primary contact of the patient from Hongasandra.
