BJP MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta, who recently became Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister and the second woman CM from the BJP, shared her vision for the city at the India Today Conclave. On Friday, she outlined key projects her government is working on to improve Delhi’s environment, water management, and infrastructure.

Transforming Landfills into Green Belts

Gupta pledged to convert Delhi’s massive landfill sites into green belts. These garbage dumps, which have been a major environmental concern for years, will be cleaned up and replaced with parks and greenery. She assured that her government aims to reduce three landfill sites by 80-90% within the next two years.

A Clean Yamuna with Cruises

The Chief Minister also emphasised the need to clean the Yamuna River to such an extent that it could support ferry and cruise services. She assured that the BJP government in Delhi will complete this project within three years.

No Waterlogging This Year

Waterlogging has long been a persistent issue in Delhi during the monsoon season. Gupta stated that her government is taking proactive measures to prevent severe waterlogging before the rains arrive.

No Water Scarcity in Summer

Delhi often faces severe water shortages in summer, leading to disruptions in daily life. Gupta promised that her government will ensure a steady and uninterrupted supply of water so that people do not suffer from shortages.

A "Double-Engine" Government for Development

Gupta expressed confidence in the BJP’s governance, stating that Delhiites now understand that a "double-engine" government, one where both the Centre and state are ruled by the BJP, is the best way to make the national capital a developed city. She emphasised that the entire party leadership stands with her in achieving this goal.

Time-Bound Action on Pollution

Addressing Delhi’s severe air pollution crisis, Gupta acknowledged it as a major challenge. She stated that her government would work in a time-bound manner, consulting experts and implementing measures to curb pollution from key sources such as stubble burning and vehicular emissions.

Living Among the People, Not in "Sheesh Mahal"

In a significant statement, Gupta stressed that she would live among the people rather than in the "Sheesh Mahal." She announced that the bungalow previously occupied by former CM Arvind Kejriwal will now be used for public purposes.
