RAIPUR: A CRPF jawan was today injured in a gun-battle with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district.

"The face-off took place in restive Kudmel hills under Mirtur police station limits when a joint squad of paramilitary personnel and district force was carrying out combing operation in the region," Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.

When security personnel were cordoning off Kudmel hills, surrounded by dense forests and located around 450 km from the state capital, a group of armed rebels opened indiscriminate firing on them, injuring constable Sandeep Kumar, of Central Reserve Police Force's 199th battalion, he said.

The ultras fled when the security personnel launched a retaliatory attack, he said.

Reinforcement was rushed to the spot and the injured personnel was being taken out of the forest.

Further details were awaited as the patrolling party was yet to return to its camp, he added.
