JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir government today said that around 28,000 people, affected by the cross border firing along the International Border in Jammu district, have been shifted to various temporary shelters in the state.

"Over 28,000 border residents of Jammu district who were affected by the cross border firing in the Jammu district have been shifted to temporary shelters in Jammu," an official spokesman said.

These people belong to Arnia, Trewa, Nikowal, Zora farm, Suchetgarh, Adbullian, Chinore area, Pragwal, Garghal and Hamirpurkona of Jammu district.

The spokesman said that while 29 farm animals were killed, 85 others were injured in the cross border firing from the Pakistani side.

"Firing has also forced the affected villagers to move about 7,000 Livestock to safer places. Around 29 animals were killed and more than 85 were injured in Jammu district alone due to the cross border firing which started last week," he said.

The official said that 13 teams from the animal husbandry department and four teams from the sheep husbandry department have been constituted to provide immediate veterinary care and treatment to the injured animals.
