Manipur is seeing a full-blown power crisis unfold. Several ministers, MLAs and MPs have rushed to New Delhi to meet the BJP leadership. A section of MLAs in the state is seeking a leadership change and wants the Centre to do a cabinet reshuffle.

Chief minister N Biren Singh went to Delhi on Thursday and met some Central ministers.

After the overdraft crisis, the CM divested Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh of finance portfolio. He also took away from Minister Th Biswajit Singh the power and public works department (PWD) portfolio.

A senior BJP leader who do not want to be named told ET, “The hint that all is not well came on June 4 when six ministers out of the total twelve-member cabinet did not turn up for a meeting in Ukhrul. Speaker Yumnam Khemchand is camping in New Delhi. Some MLAs of the ally, National People’s Party (NPP), are also in the national capital.”

Biswajit, however, rejected the speculation that he is vying for chief minister's post and said the crisis within the government was triggered due to the growing unpopularity of the present leader among the ruling legislatures.

Biren had earlier stated that reshuffle in his council would be effected within the current month.
