Crime against women: Delhi assembly passes resolution to set inquiry panel for action
Delhi assembly has passed a resolution inquiry panel headed by a judge to recommend action in cases of crime against women, at a one-day special session on Monday.

The proposal was tabled by minister for women, child and social welfare Sandeep Kumar. Following the criticism about his ‘thulla’ remark against the police, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal intervened to add one more clause in the resolution on improving “working conditions of real foot soldiers” within the law enforcement agencies. Separately, Kejriwal also intervened to announce that Delhi will set up a state human rights commission soon. Soon after the resolution was tabled, BJP MLAs trooped into the well of the House and termed it as “illegal”.
“The commission of enquiry is in contravention of Rule number 239AA. Setting up a commission is only a drama to mislead the people of Delhi. The assembly cannot set up a commission of enquiry on matters beyond the assembly’s jurisdiction, so it is illegal,” Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta said.BJP MLAs threw copies of the resolution and walked out of the assembly.
