HOBART, AUSTRALIA: India dismissed Sri Lanka for 179 on Tuesday and moved closer to a place in the limited-overs tri-series finals against Australia.

Chamara Kapugedera worked with the tail enders to put on 86 runs for the 8th and 9th wickets and was last man out for Sri Lanka, caught and bowled by Harbhajan Singh for 57 on the first ball of the 48th over.

Paceman Ishant Sharma took 4-41 and swing bowler Praveen Kumar snared 4-31 after India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and sent Sri Lanka in to bat.

Sri Lanka, needing to win its last two round-robin matches against India and Australia to qualify for the best-of-three finals series, raced to 71 for one in the 15th over before the dismissal of Kumar Sangakkara for 33 triggered a collapse.

Sanath Jayasuriya was out for 34 and skipper Mahela Jayawardene was out for 3 as the Sri Lankans lost five wickets for 16 runs.

Kapugedera worked with Lasith Malinga (13) in a 46-run innings building stand and Muttiah Muralitharan (13) in a 40-run partnership for the ninth wicket.
