CPM proposes forum to fight Mamata Banerjee- Narendra Modi 'understanding'

KOLKATA: Fearing that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent tirade against the BJP government in Delhi might help her gain political mileage across the nation, the CPM on Thursday said that there was a clear understanding between the ruling party in Bengal and communal forces.

“We will have to take the initiative for floating a larger platform to counter the communal forces. Moves are on to establish the politics of polarisation along communal lines. There has been a simmering tension in the border areas as attacks on our people are going up after the so-called surgical strike.Narendra Modi is showing signs of an autocratic government,“ CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechuri told the state committee meeting of the party here on Thursday.

CPM state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said that activities of communal forces in Bengal had gone up and there had been a clear sign of an understanding between the state's ruling party and such forces. It seemed that the CPM is slightly worried about Mamata's attempt to bring under one umbrella all the secular and democratic forces, which the CPM used to do in the past.

“Mamata has hijacked many of our political moves and is now trying to present herself as an anti-BJP force, which she is actually not. We will have to expose her,“ a senior CPIM leader said.

Left Front Legislative party leader and CPIM MLA Sujan Chakraborty on Thursday sought an appointment with Mamata sometime next week to discuss the growing menace of dengue in the city and other places in the state.
