KOLKATA: The CPM on Sunday filed a complaint against Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Derek O’ Brien with the Delhi police for releasing a morphed photograph during a press conference in Delhi showing Union minister Rajnath Singh offering sweets to former CPM secretary Prakash Karat.

Brien held a press conference in Delhi on Saturday to release the photograph. Filing the complaint with Mandir Marg police station in the capital on Sunday, the CPM demanded adequate action against the Trinamool Congress MP and party’s national spokesperson Brien. CPM has said that the photo shopped image was also uploaded on Trinamool’s Facebook post.

The party has also filed a complaint with the cyber crime section of the Kolkata Police on Sunday.

“The move was not only a clear attempt to defame the party but also to bring disrepute to Karat in the eyes of the people,” the CPIM has said in a statement. The original picture, however, showed Rajnath was offering sweets to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Derek on Saturday, had apologised for posting the photograph, which was removed from the party website and its Facebook post.
