CPI(M) resents VS Achuthanandan's stands on TP murder case, BJP rebels

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The disconnect between CPI(M)'s Kerala leadership controlled by Pinarayi Vijayan and VS Achuthanandan has again come out in the open with the party virtually admonishing the veteran leader for his stance on issues like TP Chandrasekharan murder case and approach towards BJP rebels from Kannur district.

What has angered the party is the open support extended by Achuthanandan to the demand of Chandrasekharan's widow KK Rema for a CBI probe into the "conspiracy" behind the murder of her husband in 2012.

Achuthanandan, who continues to be the leader of the LDF opposition in Kerala Assembly and a central committee member of CPI(M), also made some sharp digs at the party's move to cooperate with a group of rebel BJP workers in the politically volatile Kannur district. Before moving towards the CPI(M), the BJP rebels had floated a forum called "Namo Vichar Munch". Achuthanandan had criticised the party for having anything to do with the ex-BJP activists whose initial act was to float a forum in the name of Narendra Modi.

The CPI(M)'s state committee, which discussed the public posturing of Achuthanandan over the two issues, faulted him for making public statements which contradicted the party's official stand. A party communique issued yesterday termed Achuthanandan's statements as "unnecessary and inappropriate."

Referring to the approach adopted by the party towards the BJP rebels, the statement said Achuthanandan had gone to town with his views without bothering to learn what was happening in Kannur or trying to understand the party's position by raising the issue in the proper forum.

Earlier also, Achuthanandan had come out openly against the state party over the murder of Chandrasekharan, a CPI(M) rebel who floated a local outfit called Revolutionary Marxist party.

The sessions court in Kozhikode which tried the case last week found guilty 12 accused in the case, some of them local CPI(M) activists. However, the verdict came as a relief to the party as some of its prominent local leaders who figured as accused in the case were acquitted. Expressing dissatisfaction over the judgement, Rema has called for a CBI probe to unearth the "conspiracy" behind the murder and said, if necessary, she would launch an indefinite fast to secure the demand.
