CPI(M) oppose hike in LPG cylinder prices
NEW DELHI: CPI(M) today opposed the hike in LPG cylinder prices as "totally unjustified", saying it would impose intolerable burden on the people already suffering high prices.

"Since there is a ceiling on subsidized cylinders at nine, people have to now buy gas cylinders at exorbitant prices," the party Politburo said after the government decided to hike the price of an unsubsidized gas cylinder by Rs 220.

"Further, the insistence of the oil companies that Aadhar identification number is required for getting subsidized gas cylinders is illegal and unauthorized. It is another way to deprive households from access to gas cylinders," it said.

Maintaining that this went against Supreme Court's judgement to keep the Aadhar use in abeyance till a final verdict, the CPI(M) demanded that the government should "immediately step in to stop this linkage of supply of subsidized gas cylinders with Aadhar."
