CPI(M) MLA apologises for insensitive remark on disabled
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A senior CPI(M) MLA has tendered an apology for his remarks against differently-abled persons, which triggered a massive row across the state.

CPI(M) MLA Elamaram Kareem, also State General Secretary of CITU, had reportedly attributed the concessions extended to differently abled for KSRTC's losses.

He invited the wrath of various sections of society over his remarks on concession travel facilities to differently abled persons travelling in buses of the ailing state run Kerala State Road Transport Corporation.

Kareem was speaking during a meeting of CITU's 'Save KSRTC' campaign yesterday at Kasargod.

As the remark of the former industries minister sparked a row, Kareem in a Facebook post expressed regret, saying he had made certain remarks hurting the sentiments of the disabled while explaining the reasons for KSRTC's losses.

"Though it was not deliberate, it should not have happened," he said and expressed regret.
