KOCHI: The CPM-CPI relations have hit a new low after an article in CPI mouthpiece Janayugam criticised Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's statement that the excess land with the Kerala Law Academy cannot be taken back by the government.

Vijayan had said the land was transferred to the law academy several years back by K Karunakaran after collecting the then prevailing market price.

“The land cannot be taken back now,” he said on Sunday. The article in Janayugam said that those who think that the land cannot be taken back should know history.

The article says that the land was transferred to run a college by a trust which had government representation. But the land and the college has now come under the control of a family. They utilise the land for purposes other than education, the article said.

The revenue department has launched a probe based on a complaint that land is being misused and should be taken back by the government. On Monday the University Syndicate decided not to withdraw the affiliation given to the law academy.
