KRISHNAGAR: The CPI(M) today hit the streets of Krishnagar, Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal's Lok Sabha constituency, to protest against the actor-turned politician's controversial remarks threatening to kill Left workers and have their women raped.

CPI(M) workers took out a procession and burnt Paul's effigy.

Protest rallies would be brought out tomorrow also, district CPI(M) secretary Sumit De said.

"We submitted deputations to the Nadia SP and DM today quoting media coverage on Tapas Pal's statement and demanded legal action against him by the administration," De said, adding, "We have decided to lodge an FIR against Tapas Paul tomorrow."

Asked if the administration would take any action, District Magistrate P B Salim said, "I am going to submit a report to the State Home Department on it."

BJP Mahila Morcha also organised a demonstration in the city today to protest against Pal's remarks.

Jaya Sarkar, a member of BJP Mahila Morcha, filed an FIR against Pal in Nakashipara police station in the district.

Satyabrata Mookherjee, former union minister and BJP candidate against Pal in the Lok Sabha polls, said it was unimaginable that an MP could utter such words.

"Legal steps should be taken against him," he said. Mrinal Dutta, SUCI (Communist) district secretary, demanded the arrest of Pal and his ouster from Parliament.
