CPI(M) blames AIADMK for failed poll pact
NAGAPATTINAM: CPI(M) today blamed the "unilateral" decision by AIADMK for the collapse of the poll pact with Left parties and asserted that no alternative can be formed in the country by ignoring the role of the Left.

"...by trying to bypass the Left or marginalise the Left, we cannot create an alternative in Tamil Nadu or India, which will be capable of fighting Congress and BJP," CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat said addressing party workers here.

Karat accused AIADMK of having "unilaterally decided" not wanting to continue the alliance with the Left parties.

The tie up between AIADMK and the Left parties failed in the wake of differences between the partners over seat sharing and culminated in the calling off of electoral ties in Tamil Nadu for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls.

Karat claimed the Left parties would play a decisive role in formation of the next government at the Centre and strive towards forming a non-Congress, non-BJP government.

He said both CPI(M) and CPI would jointly face the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu and prove their strength and ruled out any possibility of tying up with other parties in the state.

Earlier, Karat inaugurated a memorial for Venmani martyrs at Keezhavenmani village here, which was constructed to pay tributes to the 44 Dalits, who were burnt to death when agricultural labourers of the village were agitating for wage rise during 1968.
