CPI(M) activists clash with police over NFSA protests
"It is an anti-people act. NFSA will deprive huge population of the right to food. It is against the interests of the people,"CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami said.
Led by senior CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, MY Tarigami, the activists took out a protest rally from Press club area here towards Raj Bhavan against the implementation of the NFSA in the state.
"It is an anti-people act. NFSA will deprive huge population of the right to food. It is against the interests of the people," Tarigami told reporters.
"We wanted to move to Raj Bhavan to hold a protest and bring the matter to the notice of the Governor but police did not allow us," he said.
The protesters demanded that the NFSA be implemented in the state in light of the CPI(M) resolution that was unanimously adopted by the Legislative Assembly in August 2014 for provision of 35 kgs ration to each family at the rate of Rs 2 per kg.
"We seek provision of 35 kilogrammes of ration at Rs 2 per kg to each family. We demand inclusion of a large section of the society, especially those born in 2011 and onwards, who were left outside the preview of subsidized ration so far," Tarigami said.
"We want implementation of the resolution in the state rather than NFSA," he added.
