CPI (M) to contest 57 seats in Tripura

Tripura will go to polls on February 18 assembly polls and the front has made a departure from the past by allocating the partners one seat each. Traditionally the partners use to get two seats.

Convener of the Left Front, Bijan Dhar stated that candidates who are popular among the people have been given party ticket.
GUWAHATI: Largest partner in ruling Left Front government, CPI (M) will contest as many as 57 seats while its partner Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and CPI will contest one seat each.

Tripura will go to polls on February 18 assembly polls and the front has made a departure from the past by allocating the partners one seat each. Traditionally the partners use to get two seats.

There are around 12 new faces in the list of candidates. Ministers in the present government have been re nominated.


Convener of the Left Front, Bijan Dhar stated that candidates who are popular among the people have been given party ticket.

As many as seven women candidates are contesting this time which is two more than 2013 assembly polls.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will contest the polls from Dhanpur assembly constituency. Revolutionary Socialist Party will field a new candidate Srikanta Datta from Radhakishorepur constituency. Forward Bloc will contest Town Bardowali constituency.

Dhar said that Left Front will romp back to power in the state.
