CPI-M stir against milk price, bus fare hike on Dec 5

CHENNAI: Demanding immediate rollback of the recent increase in the price of milk and bus fare and the proposal to hike power tariff, Tamil Nadu unit of the CPI (M) on Saturday said it would hold a state-wide agitation on December 5.

The recent hike in milk price and bus fare amounted to "adding fuel to fire" as the people were already suffering due to the wrong policies of the UPA-DMK, CPI (M) State President G Ramakrishnan said in a statement.

The agitation, earlier scheduled for November 28 but postponed due to heavy rains, would be held in front of all state government offices and senior members of the party and MLAs would take part in it, the statement added.

Citing the bad financial condition of the state-run organisations, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has last month announced the increase in milk prices and bus fares besides the move to hike the power tariff.
