CPI (M) says Trinamool MP plans to distribute liquor and meat among central force jawans during May 5 polls in East Midnapore

KOLKATA: Just two days before the last phase of polls in Bengal on May 5, CPI (M) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Trinamool Congress MP Suvendu Adhikry saying that the MP was planning to supply liquor and meat among central force jawans to influence them. The Marxists also alleged that Adhikary held a secret meeting with five officers-in-charge of the district to execute his plan successfully.

CPIM's East Midnapore district secretary Niranjan Sihi has written a letter to the Election Commission on Tuesday and alleged that "on May 1, a meeting was held at Panskura Banamali College. In this meeting those who were present are officers-in-charge of Panskura, Moyna, Haldia, Marishda, Ramnagar and Suvendu Adhikary, MP and candidate for Nandigram assembly constituency. The decision which has been taken in this secret meeting is this. The above mentioned Officers-in-charge will supply liquor and meat for the Central Force. The money which will be necessary will be supplied by the MP.."

Sihi also said in his letter to the Commission that "the superintendent of police of East Midnapore has been informed verbally about this conspiracy to help the ruling party. If the above mentioned Officers-in-charge remain in their chair then free and fair elections in East Midnapore will be a farce."

Adhikary, when contacted, refused to make any comment, but said "CPI (M) secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra should visit a psychiatrist."

Elections to 16 assembly seats in East Midnapore district will take place during the last phase of polls in Bengal on May 5. In 2011, Trinamool Congress had won all the 16 seats in the district. Later, during 2014 parliamentary elections, Trinamool Congress had also won both the Lok Sabha seats from the district---Tamluk and Contai. Suvendu is the sitting MP from Tamluk and contesting the Nandigram assembly seat this time as a Trinamool Congress nominee. Nandigram also falls under East Midnapore district.
