CPI-M for timebound probe into J-K police firings
Anguished over young children and people being killed in police firings in J&K, CPI(M)member Brinda Karat demanded a timebound probe
"Stone pelting cannot be answered with bullets. 66 persons have been killed there in the last two months while undertaking peaceful protests. An all-party delegation should be sent to Jammu and Kashmir to express solidarity with them," she said through a Zero Hour notice in the Rajya Sabha.
She said a timebound and independent probe should be conducted into the excesses there and unconditional dialogue initiated with all sections of the society.
The delay in starting dialogue shows "callousness" of the government, she said.
Karat said that yesterday a 10-year-old child was killed in police firing and recently a group of children playing carrom were also fired at injuring them seriously.
"The Prime Minister had recently spoken of non-lethal methods for resolving the prevailing situation in J&K. I want to know how many more are to be killed and incapacitated. For how long government will allow such excesses?" she asked.
