CPI-M bags 2/3 majority in Tripura

The ruling Left Front on Friday secured two-thirds majority in the 60-member Tripura assembly winning 44 out of 53 seats, results for which were declared so far.


AGARTAL: The ruling Left Front on Friday secured two-thirds majority in the 60-member Tripura assembly winning 44 out of 53 seats, results for which were declared so far.

The CPI-M bagged 41 seats while its partners RSP two and CPI one.

The Forward Bloc, which was part of the Front in the outgoing assembly, did not fight the election following differences with the CPI-M over seat sharing.

Opposition Congress won in eight seats and its ally INPT in one. According to the trend for the remaining seven seats, the Front is leading in four constituencies and the Congress in three.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar(CPI-M) romped home from Dhanpur constituency defeating his nearest rival by 2,900 votes.
