NEW DELHI: CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan has been hospitalised at Barauni in Bihar after he fell ill during to a visit to the flood-affected areas of the state.

The veteran CPI leader was admitted to Barauni Refinery Hospital where doctors attending on him detected a stone in his gall bladder.

There is "nothing serious", senior CPI leader Atul Kumar Anjaan told reporters.

Bardhan, 82, had gone to Patna to attend the CPI State Council meeting yesterday. However, the conference could not take place as most of the party leaders were unable to reach there due to the floods.

The CPI leader then decided to visit the flood-affected areas in Begusarai. After he fell ill, he was shifted to the Barauni hospital.

Bardhan was originally scheduled to return to New Delhi tomorrow.
