CPI in Kerala to elect its secretary tomorrow

The CPI in Kerala will elect its new state secretary tomorrow to fill the vacancy created by the death of veteran leader C K Chandrappan last month.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI in Kerala will elect its new state secretary tomorrow to fill the vacancy created by the death of veteran leader C K Chandrappan last month.

This was stated by party general secretary Sudhakar Reddy, who arrived here to attend the state council meet scheduled for tomorrow.

Front runners for the post include AITUC leader Kanam Rajendran and former minister and legislative wing leader C Divakaran.

However, party sources said efforts would be made to choose the secretary through consensus.

Chandrappan died last month after being re-elected as state secretary by the CPI's state meet in February.

"By tomorrow evening, you will know who is the secretary. Wait till then," CPI national executive member and former MP Pannian Raveendran told reporters.
