CPI demands rollback of petrol price increase

CPI demanded immediate rollback of the fuel price hike and said the arguments of oil cos for upward rise is not tenable and acceptable.

PUDUCHERRY: CPI on Saturday demanded immediate rollback of the fuel price hike and said the arguments of oil companies for the upward rise is not tenable and acceptable.

The party's national council member R Viswanathan told reporters here the hike would have a cascading effect on inflation and affect the common man. "The arguments adduced by oil firms for the upward rise in price are not tenable and acceptable and the latest rise should be withdrawn", he said.

On reported unethical practices of petrol bunks here of suspending sales or selling fuel at the new price without any official communication,he said it is shocking how the Directorate of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is keeping quiet without preventing dealers from suspending sale of pre price-rise stock.

He also wanted government to constitute an expert committee to go into the plight of state owned undertakings due to alleged financial irregularities, mismanagement and poor planning`. The study would help the administration adopt strategies to make them profitable, he said.
