CPI demands probe into 'irregularities' in housing scheme

CPI in Puducherry alleged `irregularities` in the implementation of Kamarajar Housing Subsidy scheme by the Congress Government in Puducherry and demanded a probe.

PUDUCHERRY: CPI in Puducherry today alleged `irregularities` in the implementation of Kamarajar Housing Subsidy scheme by the Congress Government in Puducherry and demanded a probe.

Though the scheme envisaging conversion of all huts into concrete houses by providing subsidiy of Rs one lakh and Rs two lakh to non-scheduled caste and scheduled castes respectively, 'ineligible' persons had been given the aid, CPI local unit Secretary N.Kalainathan MLA told reporters here.

`Even the number of applications distributed under the scheme were far larger in Ministers' constituencies than in segments held by opposition parties,` he alleged.

He sought a detailed probe into irregularities in the implementation of the scheme.

He also demanded an investigation into alleged irregularities in the scheme for distribution of free garments for Pongal festival.
