COVID-19: Tamil Nadu reports over 100 deaths for the second day in a row

Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported another day of over 100 deaths with 108 people succumbing to the infection on Tuesday.

The total number of Covid related fatalities in the state increased to 4349, according to the state media bulletin.

On Monday, 109 people died on account of the infection, the highest ever single-day spike in deaths.


The number of positive cases, however, decreased to 5,063 on Tuesday from 5,609 on Monday, offering some relief as the state had been reporting nearly 7,000 cases almost every day last week.

State capital Chennai remained steady, with 1023 people testing positive for the infection.

Virudhunagar reported 424 cases on Tuesday while Thiruvallur had 358 cases. Chengalpet, Coimbatore, Kancheepuram and Theni had over 200 cases.

The total number of cases in the state increased to 268,285, according to the media bulletin.

There was a slight dip in testing on Tuesday with 52,955 which is lower than the number on Monday which stood at 56,278.

Further, the number of recoveries went up from 5,800 patients to 6501, taking the count of recoveries to 208784.
