COVID-19: Tamil Nadu inches towards 6,000 mark again

Chennai: The number of Covid-19 positive cases inched closer to the 6,000 mark yet again on Friday with 5995 people testing positive for the infection.

This takes the total tally of cases to 367,430.

Then number of deaths, however, went down from 116 on Thursday to 101 on Friday. The State has witnessed 6340 people succumbing to the infection, the state bulletin confirmed.


As many as 72,423 people were tested for the infection on Friday. On Thursday, Tamil Nadu conducted 73,162 Covid-19 tests, the highest so far.

Chennai reported 1282 people tested positive, the highest in the last week.

Chengalpet had 430 cases on Friday while Coimbatore and Thiruvallur had over 300 cases. Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Salem and Vellore had more than 200 cases.

The number of recoveries stood at 5,764 taking the total count of recoveries to 307,677 in the state.
