Karnataka Pradesh Congress president DK Shivakumar on Monday took strong exception to medical education minister K Sudhakar tweeting about spending time with children at his private swimming pool at his home in Bengaluru. The former Congress minister tweeted his displeasure after which the Medical Education Minister, who is discharging responsibilities related to controlling the spread of Covid-19, deleted his tweet.

"When the whole world is going through a health crisis, the Corona in-charge Minister Dr. Sudhakar is behaving irresponsibly by spending time in a swimming pool. It's a matter of moral & ethical standards. He must resign out of his own accord & CM should sack him from the cabinet," Shivakumar tweeted.

Sudhakar, who represents Chikkaballapur in the Assembly, was a Congress MLA before. He is among the 17 MLAs who switched sides to the BJP in July last year, causing the fall of the JD(S)-Congress regime. The two leaders share a strained relationship. The medical education portfolio that Sudhkar holds now was earlier held by Shivakumar in the JD(S)-Congress regime.

It may be recalled that the Congress leader had pulled out all stops to retain the government medical college proposed for his constituency of Kanakapura in Ramanagara district, but the BJP regime changed its location to Chikkaballapura, last year. The government defended its action saying that it was the government policy to sanction medical colleges to district headquarters, and Chikkaballapura is one, while Kanakapura is not.
