Delhi shuts all restaurants, bans gatherings of 20 or more people in efforts to curb spread of coronavirus

The announcement comes shortly after the Centre sealed all borders - prohibiting all overseas flights from entry into the country, and advised citizens above 65 and below 10 to stay at home.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has decided to close all restaurants in Delhi till March 31. Eating out at restaurants will be prohibited but take away services and food delivery will continue.

He also banned gatherings of 20 or more people at any place for social, cultural, religious, academics, seminars, conferences purposes in the state.

Earlier, 50 or more people were not allowed to gather.


"We have started stamping people who have been asked to remain in home quarantine upon their arrival in India. There are instances of such people fleeing home. If such persons don't keep themselves in quarantine, govt will be forced to arrest them and lodge an FIR against them," Kejriwal said.

"Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has asked all government departments, autonomous bodies and PSUs to segregate activities and suspend non-essential services," he added.
