Covid-19 deaths in Tamil Nadu cross 4,500-mark, new infections at 5,684

The highest ever number of deaths were reported on Wednesday with 112 people succumbing to Covid-19 in the State. The total number of Covid related fatalities in the state increased to 4571, according to the state media bulletin.

CHENNAI: The death toll in Tamil Nadu crossed the 4500 mark on Thursday as 110 more people succumbed to the infection.

The highest ever number of deaths were reported on Wednesday with 112 people succumbing to Covid-19 in the State.

The total number of Covid related fatalities in the state increased to 4571, according to the state media bulletin.


As many as 5684 fresh cases were reported on Thursday taking the total tally to 2,79,144 in the State.

State capital Chennai remained steady, with 1091 people testing positive for the infection.

Chengalpet reported 408 cases while Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur had over 300 cases. Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, Ranipet, Theni, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli reported over 200 cases.

There was a steep increase in testing on Thursday as 65062 persons were tested for Covid-19 in the State.

The number of recoveries were at 6272 on Thursday, taking the total count of recoveries to 221087.
